Colorado Cemetery Records Preservation Project
Colorado Cemetery Records Preservation Project
Purpose
The Colorado Cemetery Records Preservation Project works to locate, protect, and preserve records from small, independent cemeteries across Colorado, ensuring that these valuable historical resources remain publicly accessible for generations to come.
Goals:
- Inventory and safeguard records at risk of loss
- Preserve records in secure, public repositories
- Develop a searchable statewide database
- Partner with libraries, historical societies & genealogical groups
Volunteer Opportunities
CHCA is seeking volunteers with experience in archival research, genealogy, or local history to join one or both of our teams:
- Outreach & Standards Working Group – Develop the processes, templates, forms, and data tools that volunteers will use during community outreach to consistently document and preserve cemetery records statewide. Meets digitally as determined by the group.
- County-Based Volunteer Teams – Work locally to locate, collect, and safeguard at-risk cemetery records while connecting with families, communities, and organizations.
