Colorado Cemetery Records Preservation Project

Small, independent cemeteries often have no plan in place to preserve their documentation and no means by which to make their archival information available to the public. Therefore, these priceless and rare records are at risk of being lost, destroyed, stolen, or forgotten, denying Coloradans of a vital piece of their rich history.

CHCA is leading a collaborative effort to inventory and permanently preserve these records through a statewide network of repositories. Working in partnership with the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies, local historic associations, and public libraries, the Colorado Cemetery Records Preservation Project will increase public access to the historic information and improve educational opportunities. Work will begin in late 2020, in Grand County, Colorado.

We need your help to preserve these documents:

~  Do you have any information about the historic cemeteries in your region?

~  Do you know anyone that has information about the cemeteries in your region or Colorado?
